[:es]El nacimiento del Polo se estima que fue en Asia, hace más de dos mil años atrás, y fue usado como práctica de maniobras de guerra.
Recién en 1869 se difunde el deporte de Polo en Reino Unido, celebrándose por primera vez en el encuentro Hounslow Heath en las islas británicas.
En 1875 llega el Polo a la Argentina, hoy día conocido como el país que tiene dos de los mejores jugadores a nivel mundial, como Adolgo Cambiaso o Juan Martin Nero.
En Argentina se desarrolló el Polo con tanta excelencia, gracias a las grandes planicies de tierra existentes, y al cruce del caballo “pura sangre” inglés, con el criollo argentino, que dió paso a una nueva raza más fuerte y más veloz.
Los principales torneos de Polo en Argentina son el Campeonato Abierto del Tortugas Country Club, el Campeonato Abierto de Hurlingham y el Campeonato Argentino Abierto de Polo, también conocido como Abierto de Palermo, completando así la Triple Corona, los tres torneos de alto hándicap, que se celebran entre los meses de Octubre y Diciembre de cada año.[:en]The birth of Polo is estimated to be in Asia, more than two thousand years ago, and it was used as a practice of war maneuvers.

The main Polo tournaments in Argentina are the Tortugas Country Club Open Championship, the Hurlingham Open Championship and the Argentine Open Polo Championship, also known as the Palermo Open, thus completing the Triple Crown, the three high handicap tournaments held between October and December of each year.[:]
