[:en]In a polo match, 2 polo teams consisting of 4 players each compete against each other. Each one of these polo players is assigned a shirt to wear with a number ranging from 1 to 4. The number the polo player gets will determine their function in the field and which position they and their horse are assigned to help create the most successful alignment for the attack.
Player number 1
Players who are assigned this number are in charge of providing offense for the team and being at the forefront of the field. They are responsible for creating the chances to score by working closely with player number 2 of the team.
Player number 2
This player’s position is the one closest to the offensive team’s striker, therefore it is their job to supply the ball when play is started, and they have the option to either pass the ball to another team member or choose to run on their own and score points without passing to number one if conditions allow. Due to the difficulty playing in this position involves, this number is reserved for a more experienced player.
Player number 3
This player is the team’s captain who is responsible for managing their team’s game plan and organizing players on the field to maximize goal attempts. Player number 3 needs to be consistently observing the game, and coming up with different attacking and defending strategies on the fly. Meanwhile, this player also needs to hit long shots to pass the ball on to numbers 1 and 2 all at the same time.
Player number 4
The player with the number 4 shirt is assigned as the goal defender and the primary defense of the team. This player is in charge of preventing the attacks of the opponent team from reaching the goal. They should regularly adjust their position and movements to make it harder for the opponent team to find an opening to reach the goal. Player number 4 should also play closely with player number 3 to find to look for more opportunities on the field to reach the opponents’ goal without exposing their own.
